1. Rubber gloves (damp), drag across fabric — 9/10 effectiveness, $0 cost, 5 min for a sofa. Hair clumps and lifts off. Best method by far.
2. Vacuum with motorised brush attachment — 7/10, ~$60 attachment if you don't have it, 8 min for a sofa. Loud but reliable.
3. Damp microfibre cloth, wipe in one direction — 7/10, $5, slower than gloves but works on fabrics gloves snag.
4. Pumice stone (carpet only — NOT upholstery) — 8/10 on carpet, $4, 15 min per room. Don't use on fabric — it shreds.

The science of why gloves win

Pet hair carries a static charge. Rubber gloves dampened with water create the opposite charge, so hair lifts onto the glove instead of staying buried in the fabric. Lint rollers rely on adhesive — they work but each strip captures only a thin top layer.

Prevention beats removal

• Use a throw or washable cover on the favourite sofa spot
